Here is a sampling of the variety of projects we completed in 2000:
New Year 2K
We survived the Y2K bug without incident. How, you ask? Well, to begin the new millennium we took our audiences back in time 25 years for a new adaptation of the '70's musical "Free To Be...You And Me!" With bookings at four centers throughout the San Francisco Bay Area, we were off to a great start.
Spring 2K
With a new season came new clients. In May, the booming Great Mall of the Bay Area welcomed us for a custom event. We worked in tandem with their marketing and public relations teams to create etiquette events featuring characters from "Alice In Wonderland". It was the beginning of a grand new partnership, as we would go on to produce three additional events before the year was out. We also expanded our partnership with Westfield America to include UTC in San Diego, kicking-off their new KidsClub program with "The Best of Schoolhouse Rock." UTC and the three Northern California Westfield Shoppingtowns enjoyed a new musical each month from May through October, including our original Caribbean adaptation of "Pinocchio!"
Summer 2K
Ah, summertime...and the livin' is easy. The sand...the surf...the satisfaction of mounting three brand new programs at the same time! Wow! The hot summer days were filled with rehearsals and writing sessions as we cranked out "America Sings!", our patriotic musical comedy revue which is on its way to becoming a tradition for July 4th, Veteran's Day and Memorial Day observations. Simultaneously, we worked for the first time with Sunvalley Mall to create a four-week, custom program called "TechKnowledgeY Court!" which included a different script each week - one each on electricity, communications, the human machine, and gravity! To round out the summer, we created a new adaptation of our "Alice In Wonderland" production for yet another appearance at four centers throughout the state. Whew! And we still had to shop for back-to-school clothes!
Fall 2K
We continued our programming at Congregation Beth Am in Los Altos working with students to create a new musical, "Piece of the Puzzle", exploring a wide range of themes, including Tzedakah, Kadosh, and Tikun Olam, through a diverse and delightful collection of songs, scenes and poems. We also entered into collaboration with Yavneh Day School in Los Gatos to begin development of a visual and creative arts framework for education producing a fully staged musical with the entire student body due to be performed in the fall of 2001. And finally, we continued the development of the National Jewish Theatre Festival and a new track of Jewish education through the arts destined be replicated throughout the United States.
In September, audiences went back to school in style as we saw the return of our '50's rock-and-roll revue, "School Daze!" Then, they did the Frankenstein funk, the Monster Mash, and the Time Warp with the fab four from "Monster Bash!", our fiendishly fun Halloween musical. But wait, what's this? It's only October...is that Santa arriving on a broomstick!?! :)
Winter 2K
With bookings all over the West Coast, we kept over a 100 artists busy from early-November right up to Santa's big night. Our hit musical "It's A Wrap!" was on the road each weekend during the holiday rush, heralding Santa's arrival in enchanting style. On Thanksgiving weekend we were welcomed by Northridge Fashion Center in Northridge, CA for a full day of holiday programming, including two performances of "It's A Wrap!" adapted to include an appearance by the star of the season, Mr. Claus; an arts and crafts booth where children made holiday cards celebrating their visit to the center; and strolling entertainers who performed throughout the mall bidding shoppers goodwill throughout day.
When the elves from Santa's private reserve weren't singin' and dancin' in their stage show, they strolled and greeted guests at Bay Area malls, corporate meetings, and private parties. We also kept carolers, string quartets, numerous instrumental musicians, singing and dancing toys, and educators for our holiday arts and crafts booths extremely busy throughout the season. Just when we thought we had as much Christmas spirit as we could handle, the Great Mall booked us for a five-week long stint. The "Jolly Jinglers" (apprentice elves) performed not only songs and dances, but random acts of kindness and merry mischief while acting as concierge for shoppers during the busy holiday season. And at the other end of the Bay, our educators were visiting Oakland school children to create large-scale ornaments for Jack London Square's 70' holiday tree.
Visit this page in early 2002 for recap of our continued success in 2001 as we venture into the next century for another season of singing, dancing, music and laughter.
Here's just a sampling of the variety of projects we worked on in 1999:
When the Tech Museum of Innovation moved into their new facility they turned to theatre professionals to create their self-guided tour. We worked hand-in-hand with their education department to learn the "ins" and "outs" of each gallery to create an interactive tour for field-trip students which blended science and art and provided a useful, informative, and clever tool for students to delight in the wonder of The Tech.
When the corporate office instituted a nationwide Kids Club program, the Northern California Westfield Shoppingtowns turned to us to design and develop original musicals and presentations for their monthly Kids Club meetings. Each visit, we turned their Center Court into a theatre where children and their families enjoy a professionally produced performance hosted by an emcee, followed by prize giveaways and other audience participation fun.
When Westfield instituted another nationwide program, we worked with their marketing directors to book and provide entertainment for "Westfield Works Wonders," a fundraiser for local non-profit groups. As event entertainment staff and booking agents, we served three retail centers simultaneously entertaining over 150,000 guests.
When Jack London Square was ready to breathe new life into their annual tree trimming event, they turned to us. We provided professional theatrical costume and properties designers to serve as outreach educators in Oakland Schools to design beautiful, handmade ornaments for their 70-foot tall Christmas tree.
When an ambitious 13 year old girl wanted to do something different for her bat mitzvah, we wrote an original musical revue based on her likes, dreams, and goals. Coordinating the entire event, we also created a new breed of candle lighting service - an audience participation sing-along featuring a verse about each of the 200 guests at the party.
When Eastridge Mall's marketing director needed a fail-safe, no grief Santa's Arrival program, we worked with her to create a customized event which integrated live news remotes from KNTV Channel 11 ABC and WB20 with a professionally staged musical featuring all the best stories of the season. As the grand finale, we made it snow in Eastridge Mall.
When Los Altos' Congregation Beth Am wanted to continue their annual educational theatre program, we provided educators, administration and direction for over forty students providing education in theatre, Jewish history and ideology.
When the Hollywood Entertainment Museum wanted to spruce up their museum tour and bring life to their guest relations, we provided their staff consultation and recommendations to create an original script to include costumed tour guides, interactive elements for the guests, and a comprehensive map and guide.
When a non-profit company wanted to infuse their annual meeting with motivation, energy and imagination, we created a complete concept using the theme of "flight". When members entered the meeting they received a boarding pass (the meeting agenda), met the captain (the board president), flew into micro-meetings for in-depth discussion on the betterment of the organization, and ended with a welcome home party.
